European alternatives to Google Analytics
Web analytics that keeps visitor data in Europe
Browse the category: Web analytics services · Session recording tools
Google Analytics is Google's web and app analytics platform, offered without a licence fee and used on a very large share of websites. It reports on traffic sources, audiences, events and conversions, links up with Google Ads and other Google marketing products, and covers iOS and Android applications as well as websites. Marketing teams rely on it for campaign attribution and reporting.
Analytics has been the sharpest point of the data transfer debate in Europe, with several national supervisory authorities examining how visitor data reaches US servers, and consent banners exist largely because of it. A European alternative to Google Analytics moves that measurement to an EU or EFTA supplier. Simple Analytics and Pirsch offer lightweight, privacy oriented reporting, Piwik PRO and etracker cover more demanding marketing analysis, and TelemetryDeck focuses on application analytics.

Questions
Can I import my historical Google Analytics data?
Historical data does not usually transfer between analytics platforms, so most teams export reports for the record and start fresh. Running the new tool in parallel for a few weeks helps you understand the difference in counting methods.
Do I still need a cookie banner?
That depends on how the tool measures and on your legal advice, not on the vendor's marketing. Providers such as Simple Analytics, Pirsch and Wide Angle Analytics document their approach to identifiers, which is the part your data protection officer will want to read.
Which European alternative is closest to Google Analytics?
Piwik PRO and etracker are the nearest for teams that need segments, funnels and campaign reporting. If you mainly want to know what people visit, Simple Analytics or nilly cover that with far less setup.
