Proton VPN is a VPN service from the Swiss company Proton with a wide feature set and a strong focus on privacy. Unusually for a VPN, it offers several plans with different feature sets rather than one product for everybody, including a free tier.

Being based in Switzerland puts the service under Swiss privacy law, which makes it a European alternative to the American VPN brands. It suits people on public networks, travellers and anyone who wants to keep browsing away from their internet provider.

Pricing

There are four plans: Free, Basic at 5 euro per month, Plus at 10 euro per month and Visionary at 30 euro per month. A one-year commitment is 20 percent cheaper and a two-year commitment 33 percent cheaper.
