FranceVates VMS is an open source virtualisation platform from Vates, a French company founded in Grenoble in 2012 with a team of more than eighty people. It pairs XCP-ng, a type 1 Xen based hypervisor that runs on any x86 hardware, with Xen Orchestra, a web interface for management, administration and backup. Together they cover the whole life cycle of a virtual machine, from deployment and orchestration through to backup and disaster recovery.
There are no proprietary licence costs: Vates builds its business on professional support and services, and the code stays open. That makes it a European alternative to VMware for on premises, hybrid and edge infrastructure, and it suits organisations that want virtualisation they can keep in house.
