DeepL SE is a German company founded by Jarek Kutylowski. Its company disclosure names international investors including Benchmark, IVP and Index Ventures, but does not disclose a controlling voting majority. European ultimate control is therefore not verified. International investment alone does not establish non-European control.
DeepL is a machine translation service from Germany, known above all for the quality of what it produces. It covers fewer languages than Google Translate, but new ones keep being added and there are already enough that most users never reach the edge of the list.
A German company running the service makes DeepL the obvious European alternative for translation work inside the EU. It suits writers, translators and support teams who care more about how natural a translation reads than about raw language count.
The service can be used for free and is funded by Pro plans starting at 8.99 EUR per month. Developers who only need the API can choose separate plans.
