Scope verdict

Ownership reviewed, controller unresolved

BeReal SAS, Paris RCS 881 079 685, is the operator and data controller at 59 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 75001 Paris. The official register names Voodoo SAS (792 483 307) as president, and both companies announced the completed acquisition in June 2024. GBL discloses a 14.8% minority in Voodoo at June 2026. Voodoo's filed April 2026 articles give one vote per share but do not identify the current holders. Its presidency chain through Stan Holding and S1 Holding to Alexandre Yazdi is a management chain, not proof of majority ownership. Ultimate control remains unresolved. French law and Paris courts apply subject to mandatory local protections.

How we classify services

Operational dependency warning

Relies heavily on non-European providers

Current public evidence shows 6 non-European infrastructure or email dependencies across 4 providers: Amplitude and Datadog, Cloudflare and Fastly, Google, Mailchimp and authorized domain MX. The reviewed operational path is therefore not entirely European.

Review dependencies ↓

BeReal prompts friends to share a front-and-back camera photo during a daily two-minute window. The proprietary app also offers comments, reactions, memories and optional wider sharing. It is operated by BeReal SAS and has belonged to Voodoo since the June 2024 acquisition.

The core app is free and advertising-supported. Its current policy describes ad targeting using inferred interests from photos and inferred gender from profile information, with consent controls in the app. French incorporation does not establish EU-only hosting or ultimate European control.

Pricing

The core consumer app is free with advertising. The September 2026 terms offer a paid No Ads subscription only in the United States, managed through Apple or Google; they do not publish a fixed price. Other in-app purchases can apply. Advertising inventory is a separate business offering.

Data and operations

Infrastructure and email path

Verified operational dependencies, shown separately from ownership and from the service's core data hosting.

Core service hosting

Google Cloud

Non-European provider
Observed
BeReal's public provider table identifies Google Cloud for cloud services. It does not identify production or backup regions; EU-only hosting is not established.

Why this matters

Reviewed evidence places Google Cloud in the core service path, so customer data may be processed under non-European control. Check the cited source for the documented region and scope.

Supporting services

Devoteam

Provider control not verified
Observed
The same table identifies Devoteam for cloud services without a precise operational split or regions. Provider control was not established in this review.

Supporting services

Cloudflare and Fastly

Non-European provider
Observed
Named for content delivery networks. These edge services do not establish where every photo, database or backup resides.

Why this matters

The published disclosure lists Cloudflare and Fastly for supporting services. Depending on the function, account or customer data may reach this non-European provider. See the source for the documented scope.

Public website

Framer

Provider control not verified
Observed
www.bereal.com CNAME sites.framer.app; apex and www resolve to 31.43.160.6 and 31.43.161.6. The cookie policy identifies Framer. This is the public website, separate from the app's cloud services.

Incoming business email

Google Workspace

Non-European provider
Observed
MX 1 aspmx.l.google.com · 5 alt1.aspmx.l.google.com · 5 alt2.aspmx.l.google.com · 10 aspmx2.googlemail.com · 10 aspmx3.googlemail.com

Why this matters

Published MX records route incoming business email through Google Workspace. Correspondent details and message content can therefore enter this non-European provider's systems; MX does not reveal the configured storage region.

Authorised outbound email

Mailchimp and authorized domain MX

Non-European provider
Observed
SPF v=spf1 mx include:servers.mcsv.net ~all. This is sender authorization, not proof of every delivery path or app-generated email.

Why this matters

This domain authorises Mailchimp and authorized domain MX to send email. If active, recipient details and message content can be processed by this non-European provider. SPF does not reveal its configured storage region.

Message delivery channel

Ding

Provider control not verified
Observed
Named as SMS provider; the entry does not resolve the exact contracting company, provider-control chain or routing regions.

Supporting services

Amplitude and Datadog

Non-European provider
Observed
Named for data analytics and enterprise observability. The privacy policy describes a 0.001% sample of interface recordings, retained for at most 90 days, but does not name that recording vendor.

Why this matters

The published disclosure lists Amplitude and Datadog for supporting services. Depending on the function, account or customer data may reach this non-European provider. See the source for the documented scope.

Supporting services

Hive, Getstream, Zendesk and AppBot

Provider control not verified
Observed
Listed respectively for content moderation, infrastructure support, customer support, and support/analytics. These role labels do not constitute a full processing-region or provider-control disclosure.

Payment processing

Apple App Store and Google Play

Non-European provider
Observed
App stores process in-app purchases. BeReal receives transaction identifiers, receipt tokens and purchase records, not payment-card details according to its policy. The current No Ads subscription is US-only.

Why this matters

When this payment method is used, Apple App Store and Google Play processes payment and billing data. This role alone does not establish access to the service's other customer content.

Public DNS records identify visible providers and routes, not every backend location or private data-region setting.
