Register No. 010
Is APPUiO European?
Yes. APPUiO is under verified European control.
The operator is VSHN AG, Neugasse 10, 8005 Zurich, CHE-275.566.226. VSHN's current sovereignty statement dated 24 April 2026 explicitly says 'no foreign parent company, all shareholders Swiss citizens'. This direct ownership disclosure supports European control; Switzerland is European although it is outside the EU. The statement is company evidence, not an independently inspected private shareholder register. VSHN's July 2024 announcement establishes its takeover of APPUiO from Puzzle.

About APPUiO
APPUiO Cloud provides namespaces on a shared managed Red Hat OpenShift cluster. It lets teams deploy containers without operating the underlying cluster. Dedicated managed clusters are a separate offering with different scope and contractual conditions.

appuio.ch ↗Managed OpenShift namespaces and clusters from Switzerland
VSHN AG operates APPUiO after taking it over from Puzzle in July 2024. In April 2026 VSHN explicitly stated that it has no foreign parent and all shareholders are Swiss citizens, supporting European control. Its ownership is separate from the control and processing locations of cloudscale, Exoscale and other suppliers.
- Pricing
- Published Cloud rates start at CHF 0.001135 per GiB of RAM per minute for cloudscale Flex and Exoscale Standard, about CHF 49 per 30 days. cloudscale Plus is about CHF 59 per GiB per 30 days. The minimum is 128 MiB per pod per minute, and requested resources can determine billing. Storage and other charges are extra. Prices exclude Swiss VAT, listed as 8.1%. Dedicated managed clusters require a separate quote.

Operations
Who runs the parts of the service we could observe from outside, checked 15 September 2026. A provider's control can differ from where its servers stand.
| Part | Provider | Provider control | What we saw |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public website | cloudscale.ch | Unknown | www.appuio.ch points through cname.cloudscale-lpg-2.appuio.cloud to 185.98.123.232. cloudscale disclosed a 40% Cyberlink investment in December 2024; that statement alone does not reveal every ultimate voting right. [1] |
| Core hosting | cloudscale.ch | Unknown | Published APPUiO Cloud tariff offers cloudscale zones. Swiss infrastructure location and VSHN's own ownership disclosure do not automatically establish this separate supplier's control. [1] |
| Core hosting | Exoscale | Not European | Published tariff includes Exoscale zones. Exoscale belongs to A1 / América Móvil; Swiss hosting location is separate from the supplier's non-European control. [1] |
| Incoming email | VSHN | European | Live MX points to mxin1.corp.vshn.net. VSHN explicitly states all its shareholders are Swiss citizens; underlying mail subprocessors are not fully identified by MX. [1] |
| Outgoing email | Oracle Dyn | Not European | SPF includes spf.dynect.net in addition to VSHN/APPUiO mail domains; this is an authorization signal, not proof that every message traverses Oracle. [1] |
| App platform | Red Hat OpenShift / IBM | Not European | The shared managed platform is based on Red Hat OpenShift. Software supply is distinct from customer-data hosting or VSHN ownership. [1] |
Cloud offers shared namespaces rather than dedicated cluster ownership, with cloudscale and Exoscale zones in the public tariff. The DPA permits processing primarily in Switzerland, British Columbia in Canada and the EEA, and further countries with safeguards and prior notice. It therefore does not promise Switzerland-only processing. Its subprocessor pointer leads to a broad partner list rather than a complete customer-specific role and region table. The Cloud FAQ allows cancellation at the next billing cycle and deletes running workloads at its end; general contract terms contain different duration provisions, so the ordered service matters. Public website and mail DNS identify cloudscale, VSHN and Oracle Dyn. The source review did not independently establish every live zone or backup-retention period.
