Snikket

Federated private messaging on a server you control

United KingdomOpen source

Snikket packages the open XMPP network into approachable apps for private groups. It supports end-to-end encrypted messages, group chats, file sharing and audio and video calls without requiring a phone number or uploading an address book.

Anyone can run the open source Snikket server on a VPS or a device at home, choose the hosting jurisdiction and move the instance later. This listing covers that self-hosted route, not a promise about every independently operated Snikket server.

Pricing

The server and apps are open source. Hosting the server is a separate cost.

Data and operations

Infrastructure and email path

Verified operational dependencies, shown separately from ownership and from the service's core data hosting.

Public website

DigitalOcean

Non-European provider
Observed
A 178.128.243.238 · AS14061

Why this matters

Public DNS routes website visits through DigitalOcean. Visitor IP addresses and request metadata can reach this non-European provider; this does not identify the core service's data location.

Incoming business email

Fastmail

Non-European provider
Observed
MX 10 in1-smtp.messagingengine.com · 20 in2-smtp.messagingengine.com

Why this matters

Published MX records route incoming business email through Fastmail. Correspondent details and message content can therefore enter this non-European provider's systems; MX does not reveal the configured storage region.

Public DNS records identify visible providers and routes, not every backend location or private data-region setting.
