Pleroma

Open source federated microblogging platform

Open sourceOpen source

Pleroma is open source microblogging software: a social platform you install on your own server. It is compatible with the rest of the fediverse, so a Pleroma account can follow and reply to people on Mastodon, Pixelfed and Misskey.

Pleroma is a self-hosted open source project and therefore not necessarily European. The country your data sits in is decided by whoever runs the server. Hosted in Europe, or joined through a European instance, it becomes a European alternative to commercial social networks. It suits technically confident people and small communities.

Data and operations

Infrastructure and email path

Verified operational dependencies, shown separately from ownership and from the service's core data hosting.

Incoming business email

Fastmail

Non-European provider
Observed
MX 10 in1-smtp.messagingengine.com · 20 in2-smtp.messagingengine.com

Why this matters

Published MX records route incoming business email through Fastmail. Correspondent details and message content can therefore enter this non-European provider's systems; MX does not reveal the configured storage region.

Authorised outbound email

Fastmail

Non-European provider
Observed
SPF spf.messagingengine.com

Why this matters

This domain authorises Fastmail to send email. If active, recipient details and message content can be processed by this non-European provider. SPF does not reveal its configured storage region.

Public DNS records identify visible providers and routes, not every backend location or private data-region setting.
