About Staan

Staan is a European web search index with an API. It already answers a large share of searches on Ecosia and Qwant in France and Germany, and since June 2026 any developer can use it for search and AI tools.

Ownership

European Perspective SAS, a Paris company set up in 2024, builds the Staan search index. It is a joint venture that Ecosia and Qwant announced in November 2024 as owned in equal shares, and its president, Boris Lecoeur, also runs Qwant. Ecosia is steward-owned in Germany, and Qwant's parent Synfonium is 75 percent owned by the Klaba brothers' companies and 25 percent by France's Caisse des Dépôts.
