Is Adyen European?

Widely held

Not by control. Adyen is widely held, with no shareholder in control.

Adyen N.V., KvK 34259528, Simon Carmiggeltstraat 6-50, 1011 DJ Amsterdam, is listed in DNB's bank register. The 2025 annual report gives each share one vote and requires a one-half issued-capital majority to cancel a binding board nomination or dismiss a board member. The checked AFM BlackRock filing concerns 13 February 2026, with 5.03% capital interest and 6.03% voting rights including potential interests; it is not a current complete shareholder register. No reviewed evidence establishes a controlling shareholder, so dispersed global ownership is retained. The July 2026 purchases of Talon. One and Orb were acquisitions by Adyen. Standard terms for agreements from 1 November 2023 use Dutch law and ICC arbitration in Amsterdam.

Privacy roles depend on the service. Adyen acts as controller for acquiring and regulatory customer checks, and as processor for some merchant tools. The public policies cover transaction data, identity checks, fraud prevention and model training. A merchant's signed agreement determines the applicable services, fees and data-processing terms.

Pricing
Fixed processing fee plus a payment-method fee; the checked global page displays USD 0.13 as the base fee and method-specific charges, including Interchange++ card pricing. It advertises no setup, integration, closure or monthly platform fee, but its FAQ explicitly requires a minimum invoice depending on industry or business model. Other products and hardware are priced separately, and tax treatment depends on the agreement and jurisdiction. There is no universal all-in rate. Merchant terms allow reserves and chargeback-related deductions; ordinary termination requires two months' written notice unless otherwise agreed.
Suits
Merchants and platforms combining online and in-store payments that can assess contractual minimums, reserves and global processing

Operations

Who runs the parts of the service we could observe from outside, checked 17 September 2026. A provider's control can differ from where its servers stand.

Core hosting Adyen-operated payment infrastructure Unknown Adyen states that it administers payment systems in Europe, US, India, Singapore, Japan and Australia, storing processed payments in Europe and an isolated India environment. Its no-public-cloud claim must be read alongside the newer cloud subprocessor list; precise workload and backup mapping is undisclosed. [1] [2]
Supporting service Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft and Oracle Not European The July 2026 list names four US entities for processing-related cloud infrastructure, storage, compute and networking, effective 1 September 2026. It does not specify service-by-service use or processing regions. These vendors are not evidence of US ownership of Adyen. [1]
Public website Netlify / Amazon Web Services Not European www.adyen.com and investors.adyen.com point to adyen.netlifyglobalcdn.com, resolving to 15.197.167.90 and 3.33.186.135. Observed AS16509 AWS Global Accelerator; these are website edges, not a map of merchant payment data. [1] [2] [3]
Supporting service Cloudflare edge network Not European docs.adyen.com resolved to 62.146.255.255 on AS13335 Cloudflare. checkoutshopper-live.adyen.com returned both Cloudflare-routed 62.146.255.x and Adyen AS200596 147.12.x.x addresses. Edge geolocation does not establish payment-data storage. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Incoming email Google Workspace Not European MX records identify ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM and ALT1-4. Private mailbox-region settings and message contents are not visible from DNS. [1]
Outgoing email Google, Salesforce, Marketo and Greenhouse Not European _spf.adyen.com authorizes _spf.google.com, _spf.salesforce.com, mktomail.com and mg-spf.greenhouse.io, alongside IP ranges. SPF shows permitted senders, not actual message traffic or payment processing. [1] [2]
Supporting service Akamai authoritative DNS Not European Nameservers include six akam.net hosts alongside ns01.adyen.com and ns02.adyen.com. DNS provision is distinct from the payment platform and corporate control. [1]

Adyen claims payment systems in Europe, US, India, Singapore, Japan and Australia, with processed-payment storage in Europe and isolated India. Its infrastructure page says no public cloud for payment processing, while the newer subprocessor list names AWS, Google, Microsoft and Oracle from 1 September 2026 without workload or region detail. That scope needs clarification. Actual website DNS identifies Netlify/AWS, checkout addresses include Adyen and Cloudflare routes, and corporate mail uses Google. Transactions are generally retained seven years; business-relationship records seven years after contract end; identity documents, including biometric identifiers, typically five years, subject to local rules. International transfers use the stated contractual safeguards. No executed DPA or complete backup/deletion and supplier-region schedule was obtained.
