Threema is an end-to-end encrypted messenger from Switzerland. It can be used without a phone number or email address. Private users buy the app once, and companies and public bodies use the business version, Threema Work.
Ownership
Threema AG (formerly Threema Holding AG) absorbed the operating company Threema GmbH by merger in mid-2026 and now runs the business from Pfäffikon SZ. Comitis Capital, a private-equity firm based in Frankfurt am Main, bought Threema from Afinum and the founders in January 2026. Comitis managing partner Nikolaus Bethlen has chaired the Threema board since February 2026.
