Register No. 113

Is Suunto European?

Not European

No. Suunto is controlled from China.

Suunto is a Finnish company, but since 2022 it has belonged to Liesheng, an electronics company in Dongguan, China, which holds it through a Hong Kong subsidiary. Liesheng's chairman Ma Hao also chairs Suunto's board and runs it as managing director. Who owns Liesheng itself is not public in open sources, but nothing points to European control.

GPS sports and outdoor watches from Vantaa, Finland

Suunto has made compasses and outdoor instruments in Finland since 1936 and is still based in Vantaa, but it has belonged to the Chinese electronics company Liesheng since 2022, so it does not count as European here. It suits runners, hikers and divers who want a dedicated sports watch rather than a general smartwatch.
