Is PixelUnion European?

Unresolved

Not established. Public sources do not show who ultimately controls PixelUnion.

Everything public points to the two Dutch founders, but no open source says who owns the B.V., and the company has not said it has no outside investors. We list it as unresolved until it publishes its shareholders.

About PixelUnion

PixelUnion is a photo and video backup service from the Netherlands, built as an alternative to Google Photos and iCloud Photos. It is a hosted version of the open source Immich, which it has run since early 2025.

Ownership

PixelUnion B.V., registered in Alkmaar, has run PixelUnion since 30 October 2026, taking over from PixelUnion V.O.F., the partnership its founders Jochem Bruijns and Bram Koch started in 2025. The company describes itself as a two-person team funded by subscriptions, but no open source lists the B.V.'s shareholders.

Hosted Immich photo backup from the Netherlands

It runs a fork of the open source Immich, published under the AGPL, so you can move to a self-hosted Immich later. The service is limited to people living in the EU, and the name notwithstanding, it is not a Pixelfed instance.
