Is Mistral AI European?
Not established. Public sources do not show who ultimately controls Mistral AI.
Mistral has taken money from many investors in Europe, the US and Asia, and none is known to hold a majority. Its three French founders hold shares with extra votes and, according to press reports, held more than half of the votes after the 2025 round. How the 2026 round changed this has not been published, so the controller is unresolved.

About Mistral AI
Mistral AI is a French company that builds AI models and the assistant Vibe, which was called Le Chat until August 2026. It is based in Paris and was founded in 2023. Businesses also use its models through an API or on their own servers.
Ownership
Mistral AI SAS (Paris) has no parent company. After the September 2025 round ASML held about 11 percent on a fully diluted basis and a seat on the strategic committee. The September 2026 round of 3 billion euro was led by Samsung Electronics, with EQT's Scaleup Europe Fund and PSG Equity. The three founders hold shares with multiple votes, but their current share of the votes is not public.
