Register No. 017
Is Calligra European?
Yes. Calligra is under verified European control.
Calligra is developed by the KDE community, with legal and financial representation from KDE e.V., a German nonprofit association at Prinzenstraße 85 F, 10969 Berlin, register VR 31685, VAT DE278127691. Its binding statutes give active members voting rights and an elected five-person board; supporting members receive no vote through sponsorship. The European governance classification refers to this association structure. Contributors retain their software copyrights; KDE e.V. is not a corporate owner of every contribution.

About Calligra
Calligra is KDE's desktop office and graphics suite. The main bundle contains Words, Sheets, Stage and Karbon for documents, spreadsheets, presentations and vector graphics. KEXI and Plan have separate release schedules; older components should not be treated as part of the current bundle.

Operations
Who runs the parts of the service we could observe from outside, checked 16 September 2026. A provider's control can differ from where its servers stand.
| Part | Provider | Provider control | What we saw |
|---|---|---|---|
| App platform | User's local computer and chosen storage | Unknown | Calligra is desktop office software, not a hosted document-editing service. Document storage, backups and any connected remote locations depend on the user's system. Desktop use does not by itself make KDE a processor of document contents. [1] [2] |
| Public website | Hetzner | European | Google DNS on 16 September 2026 at 19:32 UTC returned 85.10.198.55. IPinfo identifies tyran.kde.org, AS24940 Hetzner and Nuremberg, Germany. This concerns website infrastructure, not local documents or all download mirrors. [1] [2] |
| Incoming email | KDE letterbox on Iomart network | Unknown | MX is letterbox.kde.org, resolving to 46.43.1.242. IPinfo identifies AS35425 Iomart Managed Services Limited and a UK location. The current ultimate controller of this supplier was not reviewed. [1] [2] |
| Supporting service | ClouDNS and KDE web services | Unknown | Actual Calligra NS records are pns31-pns34.cloudns.net. KDE's general web privacy policy separately names Matomo, Datacamp/CDN77, Imperva and Bytemark DNS. Its older DNS statement differs from the observed Calligra nameservers; supplier use is not verified for every request. No Calligra SPF record was returned. [1] [2] [3] |
Local editing does not require a hosted-document DPA with KDE. Website and download activity is separate: the observed site uses Hetzner in Germany, mail resolves to an Iomart network in the UK, and nameservers are ClouDNS. KDE's web policy describes self-hosted Matomo with truncated IPs and 30-day detailed records, plus external CDN/WAF services. A Calligra-specific telemetry audit, all download-mirror regions and user-selected remote storage were not verified.
